Bella. I know you understand. ANd what you said reminds me of yet another song. A song that is like the movie, sad and so beautiful.... " Too Far Gone" Neil Young..

NEIL YOUNG LYRICS

"Too Far Gone"

When I woke up you were gone
And the sun was on the lawn
Empty pillow with perfume on
I smelled it.

Well, we met in my favorite bar
Took a ride in my old car
But I still don't know how
We made it home.

Was I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

We had drugs and we had booze
But we still had something to lose
And by dawn I wanted
To marry you.

With our attitudes by day
And our secret dreams by night
Can we really live our lives
That way.

Am I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

Was I too far gone
Too far gone
Too far gone
For you.

Caged.....I didn't mean to come off heavy on ya.  It's just that the topic of suicide hits very close to home for me.  I find it to be a very selfish act, a cowardly act....in many ways.   I understand the torment that people can be in.  I just don't understand why they don't get the help or accept the help offered to them...including the type of love Shue's character offered Ben.  What you said here was spot on...."She  just truly loved him and didn't expect it and accepted him as he was and he accepted her as she was. The beauty of that .. And she lost the only thing she loved and was trying to save...  What do you do after that? How can you replace that?  You can't ... ANd so you just go on, haunted forever.."

It's sad because even Shue's truthful and fully accepting love wasn't enough for Ben to change his ways.  He was to far gone....too deeply entrenched in his demons.

But!  Just think of the love they could have shared....they could have saved EACH OTHER with that kind of love....I mean, Shue's character needing saving too and her love wasn't there for her.....Sad...very sad....

Oh well......In reality, life is usually more complicated and even more tortured.  I shouldn't ramble on in judgement.  Like I said, the topic just hits a bit to close to home.  Take care!

This movie really tourmented me. I was kind dizzy 2 or 3 days after watching it. Great job by both NC and Elisabeth Shue. A movie that leaves you speechless...

Sorry. I'm sure  everyone here has seen this movie and maybe because it was so heavy,  ... Whatever. They don't want to talk about it. I loved it. It is heartbreaking. It makes me love him even more. It is hard to watch at times.. It is such a devasting love story. She, Elizabeth Shue was brilliant. ( Not all glammed out, No lipstick, hardly made up except when she was working... She  just truly loved him and didn't expect it and accepted him as he was and he accepted her as she was. The beauty of that .. And she lost the only thing she loved and was trying to save...  What do you do after that? How can you replace that?  You can't ... ANd so you just go on, haunted forever.. Sorry, I tend to get carried away. Forgive me.. But the last time I checked, it is not against the law.

Calm down Caged!  Most of us are here from time to time.  For me....My computer has been out of service for a bit and chances are it will be again very soon.....

Anyhoo....about LLV......

I agree it was one hell of a love story.  It was also an extemely dark take on life and a story of when someone chooses to give up on life even when offered the gift of true love.  That choice....the choice of suicide.... hits a bit too close to home for me.

In reality, suicide leaves carnage in it's wake and I prefer to not go there when I'm looking to be entertained....That...and the fact that I face my own personal demons every waking hour and have even prayed for an end to my anguish....makes the story of LLV one a bit to hard for me to fully appreciate it, I guess.

Anyhooo......take care.  B
