Nic Cage's Son Finally Discovers His Dad's a Movie Star
It will be a few years before he watches 'Leaving Las Vegas', but Wednesday night marked a movie milestone for Nicolas Cage's 4-year-old son, Kal.
"This is the first time my youngest son is ever going to see me in a movie, so we'll see what happens," Cage said at the Cinema Society and Amnesty International screening of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, due in theaters July 14, in New York.
Then, turning to his wife of six years, Alice, he asked: "What does Kal think I do for a living?"
Savvier than the star possibly suspected, she replied: "He knows that his daddy makes movies. He's starting to see the trailers."
Though watching his dad fling plasma bolts proved a bit overwhelming for the little guy, who left the screening midway through, Cage decided the family-friendly flick would be the perfect introduction to his body of work.
"My movie comes on TV at home [and] I always shut it off," he said. "I don't like him seeing my movies. But I thought tonight would be a special treat ... I thought that'd be fun for [him] to see why Daddy goes to work."

The first movie I saw in the theatre was Sleeping Beauty and apparently the dragon terrified me. It is pretty scary even now! The first movie I can really recall seeing in the theatre ( at the drive-In actually) is Old Yeller and let me tell you that was tramatic, I stll can't watch it without sobbing uncontrollably.
Anybody go to drive-ins anymore? We had a drive-in in our community for years, so much fun going to movies when I was a kid, our parents probably liked it too as we usually fell asleep during the second feature. It was a great place to go when teenagers too
My first Nic movie was probably Moonstruck, or Raising Arizona. Both favourites too.
hmmm... don't remember my first movie, but i do remember watching something wicked this way comes. scared the poop outta me! do remember my first nic flick. valley girl, age 8. the day my goals in life shifted from being an astronaut to being mrs. nic cage. wonder where i went wrong? LOL
Wow, what a monumental event for Nic, Alice and Kal-el. Great interview Meg thanks for posting it!
Can anyone remember their first movie? Mine was 'Bambi' at the cinema! I cried the whole way through! It's an amazing overwhelming experience with the sound and the big screen! and Wizard Of Oz on tv ( which is still possibly my all time favourite film! )
