Glastonbury has launched it's own assault on the charts this year with the release of Christmas in Glastonbury, a festive song by local group Neil and the Neighbours.
The song, which celebrates the unique and unusual that is Glastonbury during the festive period is available on CD from Tor Records, Glastonbury Music Shop and Serendipity, and a video to promote the song has already been unleashed to a world-wide audience on YouTube.
And while the video has a number of familiar faces, including Neil Cardall, Chris Williams and Deborah Penny, the group also did their bit to entice central Somerset's most famous resident to appear in the video.
"Chris, one of The Neighbours from Neil and the Neighbours bumped into Nicolas Cage in the Glastonbury toy shop and asked if he'd like to take part in the filming of the video," said Deborah Penny. "He declined the offer politely because he was with his wife and son - it was a great shame and we hope that another time he might join us in the making of a follow up song."
Undeterred, the group went ahead with the video, which features them getting into the Christmas spirit at the Market Place in Glastonbury and near the foot of the Tor.
"We danced around the tree at the Market Cross and had a very joyous time," said Ms Penny.
"It's a shame that Nicolas didn't join in - I would liked to have invited him and his family to dinner at my home in Glastonbury. Mr Cage, if you read this please let me know your favourite dish and I will prepare it for you and your family next time you are in town, in our humble but very cozy abode - not quite a castle but a very interesting and curious home.
"We would tell no one and could provide a disguise if you like - a long black cloak with a red lining or something in keeping with local costume."
