I know that National Treasure turned out to be a blockbuster and it was a fun flick good for the entire family. But it certainly wasn't my favorite Nic flick. It was too generic....a cookier cutter variety, if you will. I like to see Nic in flicks that he personally might enjoy doing.....NT was quite formulaic, if you know what I mean.

“For 'National Treasure', we came up with a wonderful idea, a true incident in American history that's a wonderful jumping off point for 'National Treasure 2,' and Nick [Cage] is excited about doing the movie. He likes the idea of what we're pursuing, so hopefully, we'll get that done towards the end of the year."
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have begun laying out a map for "National Treasure 2," a sequel to the surprise hit that marked the biggest film of Nicolas Cage's career.
The studio has hired Gregory Poirier to write the movie, which will be directed by returning Helmer Jon Turteltaub.

"National Treasure," released in November, revolved around efforts to find a treasure trove with help from a clue hidden on the back of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
To the surprise of many observers, it overcame lukewarm reviews and became a huge hit, grossing more than $173 million domestically. Since then, Disney had played down the idea of a sequel, saying it would not do one unless a good story could be told.
The first movie had a small army working on it. The film has "story by" credits for Jim Kouf, Charles Segars and Disney feature marketing head Oren Aviv and "screenplay by" credits for Kouf, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley.
Poirier wrote Disney's "Swiss Family Robinson," which attracted Jonathan Mostow ("Terminator 3") to sign on as director. Poirier also has done unaccredited production work on the studio's Reuters/Hollywood Reporter
