Wow Lula, you rock girl! That´s a very thought out line: "the agony and ecstasy, horror and comedy mix". I think that could probably sum up Nic´s goal not only in GR but in many of his other films... Very perceptive of you.
I've always thought Nic got the agony and ecstasy, horror and comedy mix just right with the awesome first transformation scene, and with the whole film!
I think the shock factor was less extreme because of the context if you know what I mean! Ok, so it's not everyday someones head turns into a flaming skull, but this is Ghost Rider! I felt a combination of emotions, could be a reflection of the elements Nic put into it, could be me!
Love it, one of my favourite scenes.
I agree Oom, license to let rip, what total liberation! I reckon it'd be great therapy to release all kinds of stored emotion, and what more transformational element is there than fire...or more symbolic symbol than the skull!
Oh I do love Ghost Rider and to all those who don't!! Lol.

Ya know.......the truth is..........some people really get a kick out of shocking other people. Sorta an 'in your face'............'whaddya think about that' sort of attitude. I wonder if that's Nic's modus operandi? Or if he's really just a way out there sort of guy naturally...............looking at the world thru a different set of lenses.
Personally I think it's prob both! LOL!
