time to pull out the soapbox! i think the problem with his career generally, and this film specifically, is hollywood's need to put him in a box, wrap and label it. he made action pics for a while, so viola! he must be an action star. how dare he pull out something original with depth and brilliant, dark humor. for shame, nic! thou shalt stay in the box! the fact that he has switched gears successfully and continuously for a couple of decades doesn't seem to count. i am so glad he shreds the box they try to cram him into. bring on the critics! love to hate, hate to love....

I agree.  THE WEATHERMAN was severly underrated.  It's an excellent movie and the story it tells of a man rings true to life.

The only thing I didn't care for was the constant and very un-necessary use of the F word.  To me.......there is no reason to use continual swearing in a movie other than for shock value.  There are a multitude of other ways to get the same amount of anger, crudeness, or frustration across in good storytelling.

Itīs one of my fave Nicīs movies. I could totally relate to Dave Spritz, it was like he was telling me my own life. Nicīs acting was superb (he pulled off a very unsympathetic character with gusto). The script was genius. What else do you want?

Thanks to the authors of these two articles for their insight!
