So we would follow exactly the same tactics: talk till we drop (hopefully onto a mattress, hehehe...) Forgive me for turning this oh so intellectual thread into something more... er, mundane...
From observation of Nic's flicks and his interviews and sound bites over all these years, I'd say Nic enjoys challenging people to think or act outside the box. Usually it should be commended but I bet there are times when it backfires and he wishes he were a tad more mainstream.
As to your question WW we do in such a situation. Hmmm.... I'd probably do much as you would do ladies..........ask him if we could discuss the subject further so that I could understand his thought process more fully.....all the while....looking at him like he was a fine specimen of a man and hoping he found me as mesmerizing as I found him.

HO HO HO. dear mara I love your scenario, but I used to tell to my students to ask me, also during the lecture, and my openion is THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS, ONLY STUPID ANSWERS sometimes, because if student is asking something, my job is to satisfy his/her knowledge. BUT if NIC would be my student I can invite him for appointment to my office, when my secretary has a free day. Sorry, SAD but TRUE.
I think I would tell Nic to please stay after the lecture to discuss our differences... over a cup of coffee. I would make sure to keep the discussion long enough to later move it to the nearest bar, and turn the coffee into a beer... and then to a restaurant where we would be treated to red wine... and then *use your imagination here*... and hopefully we would end up having breakfast together to close the full circle with coffee again, LOL!

Watching the fictional Robert McKey venting his fury on our poor Charlie got me thinking... Imagine for a moment that you´re the lecturer, and during the Q&A Nic humbly asks you an offbeat question you didn´t see coming and that shatters your preconceptions and basically challenges you to the max... What would you do?? Stick to your guns? Consider the alternative views he´s offering? Ridicule him, like McKey does in the movie?
(I think that maybe that´s what Nic does in a working environment you know? Challenge everybody most of the time, and keeping them on their toes... and that´s so enriching, but can also become a pain in the neck with some people who expect to get things done the conventional way... )
