I wonder if any of the international members here saw the eclipse yesterday?! Only a very small part of the world got to see it!
Ilia, I absolutely believe in other life in the universe. I feel it is more realistic to believe that too, we are just one planet in our solar system and just one solar system of the entire universe!
Last year astronomers got the first images of a certain kind, of planets beyond our solar system, and it makes you realize how little we can truly know!

Apart from Nic, I'm nuts about a few other things too, including celestial and earthly wonders (come to think of it Nic fits in that category !!)
2009 is The International Year of Astronomy and I have done a kind of celestial astronomy calendar for the year which includes full moons, eclipses and other astronomy, and wanted to share it here, for any fellow sky gazers!
There are some pretty big astronomical events this year including some Saturn events, and 2 solar eclipses....
One of which is TOMORROW!
It's only visible in the southern hemisphere, check out the times and locations below, I would love to hear anyone's experiences if they see it, or see some photos!
CELESTIAL DIARY FOR 2009

A partial solar eclipse will be visible from most of east Asia and Hawaii
6 August: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
Visibility: most of the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Western Asia
OTHER ASTRONOMICAL AND CELESTIAL EVENTS FOR 2009
22 February: Jupiter, Mercury, Mars conjunction
These will appear in the early morning sky in a 5 degree circle.
8 March: Saturn at opposition
This is the best opportunity to view and photograph Saturn and it's moons, as it will be at its closest to the earth
20 March: Vernal Equinox (Spring Solstice!)
11.44 UT Day and night are equal length
25 March: Venus appears both at dusk and dawn
For a few days Venus is visible as a morning and evening star. This is a rare astronomical event, and only happens once every 8 years!
16-25 April: Meteor showers
Peaking 21-22 April The lyrids meteor showers, radiating from the constellation Lyra
22 April: Occultation of Venus
Only visible from west coast US just before the sunrise
4 - 7 May: Meteor Showers
Peaking 5 - 6 May. The Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower radiating from the constellation Aquarius
21 June: The Summer Solstice
05.45 UT The longest day of the year, when the sun is as its highest point in the sky
21 June: Occultation of Antares
Visible late evening, East and central America and central Canada
18 July - 18 August: Meteor Showers
Peaking 25 - 26 July. The Delta Aquarids meteor shower radiant point from constellation Aquarius
10 August - 4 September: Saturn without rings!
The rings of saturn will be tilted edge on to the earth which makes them impossible to see. This is a rare phenomenon and only happens about every 14 - 15 years!
