Irisheleven, Sean Young and Nic didnīt get along durign the shooting of Wings of the Apache, or Firebirds which is an alternative title. The shooting in the military base was tough. Plus, it was all about the doggone Apache helicopters which were being popularized through this movie, so... Nic has mentioned many times that he wasnīt happy about the outcome. For instance, in this piece he wrote about a road trip in 1992 for Detailīs Magazine entitled "On the Road Again":
It's eight o'clock and it's Saturday night. I've checked into a hotel, tipped the bellboy, and gotten a shoeshine. I'm back in the big city. Jeff and I walk down East Sixth Street to a club called Maggie Maes. I've been here once before when I was shooting an awful movie called, 'Firebirds', and met a few great guys who were training to fly Apache helicopters for the role, Chief Warrant Officer E. J. Mikeska and Bill Lee. They brought me here, and though it's been a couple of years, I was hoping I might run into them again.

It's a horrible movie! I watch it with the sound off just to see Nic - LOL. How do you know that Nic isn't fond of it Mara?
To me Tommy Lee Jones is good in the right role. I loved him in Space Cowboys!
Sean Young....well....she just sorta has an aura about her that makes me want to run for cover. I think it's called a MASSIVE ego! Seriously tho....I have read where she has changed quite a bit since the filming of that movie so maybe, just maybe she has 'grown'?
Oh...and no doubt about it....the best thing about this movie....Fire Birds....was the fact that Nic really was quite the 'pretty boy' in this movie. He simply oooozed confident manhood in the flick! oooh la la....
Ah....just thinking about that makes me stay warm on this icy cold day! :)

Thank you Lula, I agree with your assessment of this film. Tommy Lee Jones is good though, I always enjoy him. Sean Young can't act her way out of a paper bag as far as I am concerned.
LOL! This is how oblivious I am to the others, I'd forgotten Tommy Lee Jones was even in it! Not because of the acting, I think it's more a case for me that Nic outshone them! I have never felt Nic and Sean Young were a particularly good match though, it just didn't gel, but maybe part of me thinks that of all his leading ladies. Lol

I recall an interview, somewhere in the cobwebbed recesses of my memory, irisheleven, where Nic quite light heartedly said it wasn't his best movie. I'm always doing this, making references without providing the evidence, buT i know it's out there somewhere....Lol.
As a Nic fan you can't just skip watching this movie, however bad it is. There's alot to be said for watching it now, retrospectively, it's an escapist journey if you don't take it too seriously and Nic looking gorgeous, brooding and cheeky in his uniform! Nic stands out from the whole movie like he's a sillhouette and everything else is background, he seems to ooze young man wildness only just constrained, least that's what I feel, but hardly unbiased now am I?,
