There's a book called "Ghost" which is about a man for Portugal who travels to Japan in the 18th century and lives there. He is called the Ghost because while he loves Japan, learns the language, studies everything about the country, he floats among the population as though no-one knows him. It could come too close to the Samori films, but it is a Biography of a real person.
Maybe a good idea, but maybe not.
