RE: The Weather Man Review

I abosolutely love this strange movie. I can relate in so many ways to Dave Spritz. Superb acting by our man, especially the scene in which Nic and Michael Caine are talking in the car... that took guts, to bare his soul and explore his conflicted feelings, warts and all...

The Weather Man is the story of David Spritz (Nicolas Cage), a local weatherman who is battling with life's everyday challenges. Spritz's father Robert (Michael Caine), an award-winning author, has cancer and only months to live. As if this wasn't enough, Spritz's son is in drug-rehab, his counselor is a child-molester and his daughter is smoking and made fun of by the other kids at school.

Sprtiz is also constantly fighting with his ex-wife over issues with the children. On top of it all, his attempts to get back together with her fail every time. His life is only made worse by the people who recognize him on the street and throw fast food at him. It seems as if he can never do anything right and that his father is continuously disappointed in who Spritz has become. However, despite all this, something does go right. Spritz is offered a job at a national television station to be a weather man with a salary of 1.5 million dollars a year. Unfortunately, nothing comes without a cost and he is forced to choose between living close to his family or moving far away.

The Weather Man was directed by Gore Verbinski who also directed Pirates of the Caribbean and The Ring. Though the movie does have a very depressing story line there is comic relief throughout the film. However, it though viewers probably won't be able to leave the theater without being thoroughly depressed and thankful their life is nothing like David Spritz's.
