RE: 'Allo!

Lol, oh imagine the patience you'd need after spending months on a movie, only to see a completely different outcome than you had envisioned...and then for it to be marketed in such a way that categorizes it in the wrong genre...and then they stick a stooopid picture on the dvd cover ..... Nic should definitely direct again. And write. And I wouldn't blame him for being a diva if any of the above happened, except it won't be good for his stress levels!

Sounds like a good idea to have such a clause Bon. The way I feel about solicitors and lawyers and the legal process right now, my cynicism tells me they'd have a clause saying the actor can have no further input on the rest of the film's production!

So you are an actress, ms rosypeaches! Do tell us more!w00t.gif

Maybe that's why actors of Nic's caliber and history have it in their clauses that they have some sort of approval on the creative process in which they've colloborated?  Or at least that's what I've read some do......

Yeah I know!
I've been in very minor roles in a few movies and television shows here in sweden, and all the greater actors I've talked with there have basically told me that they're not very involved in the cutting and editing process themselves. So sometimes the movie could develop in a direction they don't like.
Which I think is sad because as you said, some of an actor's best moments according to them could have been cut or altered or something like it. But that's just something you have to deal with not to give the impression of being a diva or a drama queen.

Yeah...that line makes me do a melt and dazzle too rosypeaches! biggrin.gif followed by a long pause.......................

wink.gif

Totally in agreement with what you are saying about the final product...there are many creative processes that go into it and the final edit is what we get to see..I should imagine there have been occasions when Nic may have felt his best work has either been lost, or somehow given a different flavour or spin because of how things have synthesised together in the final piece! It's always a little startling to me to hear him say, as he did with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I've not seen the film yet when it's actually already hit the big screen ! It makes you step back and realise the process a little more. smile.gif

Thank you! Haha. Yeah well there was someone that once said that he could eat a peach for hours, and I got stuck with the nickname peaches ever since squealing over that line. biggrin

I'm coming over to UK to live and work and just experience the country actually.
That is the plan at least. We'll see what we make of it.

Yeah I mean, every actor has made bad script choices. Even icons like Garbo and Humphrey Bogart and newer favourites like Sean Connery, Nicole Kidman and Johnny Depp. I think that it's only human to like a script and then it not turning out to be the brilliant movie you thought.
Actors are human, even if some of them are inhumanly talented.

Like Nic. ;)

I think he has, as you said, just got caught up in media-mess. Because well, he doesn't really stay away like some of the others, Johnny Depp for example do.
And in the media, that isn't always a good thing.
Which is sad of course.

But at least there are still faithful Nicsters like ourselves around. :)

Welcome rosypeaches, your name smells beautifully NICe! biggrin.gif

Always a pleasure to meet another Nic fan! wink.gif

You sound like a very creative soul! Are you coming over to the Uk to study?

I have to agree with Gerfalcon, Bad Lieutenant is a must see part of Nic's post Matchstick Men repertoire, but so are all the rest of his movies! I'm one of those fans who is so happy for Nic's eclecticism and what may seem like contradictory film roles ..i think they reflect the inner contradictions of us all.... dark light and all the colours of the rainbow inbetween. smile.gif

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of Nic's work obviously, but my own feeling is that Nic has become easy fodder for the critics and media, and that has filtered through to the mainstream.

You however, dear rosypeaches, have said it all... 'he's just an insanely good actor' yup.nod.gifbiggrin.gif

Love lula smile.gif

Hi there. :)
Well at least the forum is not completely dead. ;) That's usually a good sign.

I mean, for all those people saying that Nic has made only bad choices of scripts and movies lately, I say that they're terribly wrong. I mean just look at Matchstick Men. If I didn't already love Nicolas I would after seeing that movie. He's just such an insanely good actor, really. And that movie is a rather recent AND good example of it. I still think that he deserved at least one nomination for that.

Haven't seen Bad Lieutenant yet actually, but I was planning to, and especially now after hearing all good things about it. :)

Welcome Sandra!
NICe to meet u here, and yes, we are not active enough but we are absolutely the most friendly people...biggrin

There are lots of people, true, like your friends, think Nic's been overacting for years (even one of his best friend Sean Penn once said he's not an actor but more like a performer!).
Actually I take no stand for this issue, but you can't deny that Nic's still got some good works, as an "actor", recently. Have you seen Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans? Personally I like that film very much... if you haven't seen it, you must find some time and enjoy it!smile (Of course your favorites are also great!)

Again, good to see you and feel free to post anytime! :)

Hey,

Thanks,
yeah I can tell it's NOT the most active of forums really. But the people actually here seemed like a pretty nice bunch so I decided to join.

Hehe, my acting student friends usually respect him in Leaving Las Vegas and some of them can even admit that Face/Off is a good movie.
They think he overacts. Or that he just doesn't give a **** about acting anymore.

Wish I hung around with acting students and hard-core movie nerds in North America then. :)

Hi Sandra,

Welcome to the forum. I have been posting here about 6 months or so, it is a good forum, though there are not many regular posters.
You sound like you have a pretty interesting life. It is weird to me  that hard-core movie nerds and acting students consider Nick not a top actor. Maybe just in Sweden? Not so here in North America.

Love all those movies too.

Hi,

My name is Sandra. :)

I guess I should, bring you the basics of an introduction.

I'm from Sweden, and I've been lurking here for a while now, before actually joining myself. I am a semi-closeted Cage-fan, because well, around the people I hang with (hardcore movie-nerds and acting students), Nicolas Cage isn't really considered a top actor.
Since I'm here, I guess you can probably figure that I do not agree with them.
I think he's a really good actor, even if I of course do see the point of less great choices of scripts at a few occasions in the past.
He also kinda won me over with his tattoos... and his voice. I'm weak for those kind things. ;)

So yeah,
my favourite Nicolas Cage movies would be:
City of Angels, Gone in 60 seconds, The Rock, Face/Off and of course, my guilty pleasure National Treasure. (Even if I will faithfully deny knowing every line in those movies)

Recently saw The sorcerer's apprentice too, and I was positively surprised by it actually. :D It's always nice when that happens.

So yeah... other than that... I've studied acting for a few years now, and I'm moving to Sheffield, UK in September.
I love Beatles, Dylan, Bowie, old school Guns n Roses and everything in between.
Can manage a bunch of chords on guitar but bass is really more my thing. I write a lot and occasionally I draw, paint and make graphics.

So, trying not to make that FAR too long. I'll say that's me. :)
