Cage's newest role is on the Web Actor takes on different personas as 'Everyone'
ON THE WEB Nicolas Cage:as you've never seen him before: niccageas everyone.blogspot.com
That Nicolas Cage sure has a memorable mug.
That grand forehead. Those Muppet-like eyebrows. The big blue pouting eyes; long, prominent nose; and teeth that emerge like a boxer's mouthpiece.
Now picture that Oscar-winner's face on frazzled singer Amy Winehouse and Family Guy tot Stewie Griffin. Or on historical greats like Amelia Earhart and Abraham Lincoln. Or on other notables from the past and present.
Such is the face time you'll spend with Nic Cage as Everyone (nic cageaseveryone.blogspot.com), a hilarious Web site that collects images with Cage's countenance Photoshopped over someone else's dome.
The doctored pics are as eclectic and over-the-top as your typical Cage performance. Man, woman, child - no one is safe. Works of art like The Blue Boy and the Mona Lisa are also not immune. Even a different skin color can't spare famous faces - Tiger Woods, Whoopi Goldberg, even the very green Wicked Witch of the West - from the Cage treatment.
"It began when it was brought to my attention that I was 'obsessed' with Nic Cage," says site creator Vincent Dwyer via e- mail, "meaning that I brought him up in conversation nearly every day in our carpool. I think he's a fascinating and unique actor, even when he's in big-budget films that people don't necessarily deem 'good.' From there, unexpectedly, it's totally blown up."
Like the popular Web site I Can Has Cheezburger?, which showcases cutesy cat photos with kitty-speak captions, Nic Cage as Everyone thrives on its many creative submissions. Dwyer figures he sorts through upward of 50 Cage pics a day.
"I think people are basically inserting him into whatever their favorite area of pop culture may be," Dwyer says.
Cage's publicist said the actor would not have a comment about the site.
Playing Mr. Potato Head with Cage's distinguishing features isn't exactly new. After all, he did star in 1997's Face/Off as a baddie who has his face surgically removed to replace the face of an FBI agent played by John Travolta. So you could say there's a precedent of sorts for the online Cage face frenzy.
If you want to join the fun, Dwyer suggests you get to know the smudge and stamp tool in your favorite photo-editing program. Beyond that, just use your imagination. It's really hard to get a Cage pic wrong.
"The great thing about Nic Cage," Dwyer says, "is that, like in his films, no matter 'who he is,' he's still essentially Nic Cage."
And essentially unforgettable. Especially when he's Vincent Van Gogh. Or Indiana Jones. Or Rosie O'Donnell. Or Bruce Springsteen. Or the Statue of Liberty. Or ...
NICCAGEASEVERYONE.BLOGSPOT.COM PHOTOS COMBINATION: Nic Cage merged with Stewie Griffin from The Family Guy on the Web site. SYMBOLIC: Nic Cage as the Statue of Liberty? It's the invention of Web site creator Vincent Dwyer.
