To me it sounds like he´s saying goodbye in style to the area... Very nice of him indeed, giving something back to these people who welcomed him with open arms.
IMO Nic looks understandably drained. He´s going through a lot right now. But he´ll move on eventually... he´s a brave boy.
On a purely aesthetic note, I believe the grays become him, don´t you think? IMO they give him a distinguished air. I wish he stopped dying his hair and so I would enjoy his grays on his head too...
