Morpurgo's book takes his readers from the Soviet Union in the depths of the Cold War to the glamorous Cannes Film Festival in the South of France from the seventies to the present time, and he describes his adventures at movie premieres in many of the world's capitals. He writes personal and revealing anecdotes about such stars as Cary Grant, Steve McQueen, Nicolas Cage, Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Sophia Loren and Leslie Caron and many more. The Duke of Windsor, the former King of England, was a friend and he describes his sometimes hilarious encounters with many of the crowned heads of Europe as well as some of Hollywood's most renowned producers and directors of yesterday and today.
