You´re right Blue Angel, to know what you want to become at such an early age is a true blessing... It took me 40 years to figure that one out, LOL!
As for the photo, I think Nic here is the portrait of the artist as a young man, like Bonnie said. All hormones and insecurities. And this resident sadness in his look.
Maybe you are right .But thank you for writing your idea . some thing else i think he was better than others because he chose his way sooner and noticed his goals at 17.
