From all the positive reviews of BAD L and of Nic's work in it......I'm sure we're going to see him get at least nominated for awards this coming season!   :)

Yeah, I'm with you, ladies... I'm dying to see it too!
And, whether it would sweep a lot of awards or not, Nic would be, as I've said, the icon of 'the spokesman for wildness'! LOL!

I think the Academy Award has gotten fairly 'political' as far as film making goes.  Nic is highly respected in some circles yet loathed in others.  I'm not sure the Academy will be looking to nominate him for anything right now but I sure would love to see them do it!

I do think that BL will hit the 'cult' circuit as well.

If nothing else, Nic is easily becoming an icon that will be remembered for years to come.

Good topic!

I honestly don´t know who to believe, some critics are praising Nic´s work (in English speaking countries) and some others are hating it (mostly in Continental Europe and Latin America)... until we can see the movie and judge for ourselves, we can only pass a wild guess on it... I love the stills we have seen so far, and the sense of sheer insanity you get from seeing the trailer. I´ve seen a couple of Herzog´s movies from the 70´s, and if someone can equal Nic´s weirdest dreams on screen, it´s him... so I think that this might be a case of a match made in heaven (or hell, LOL!)

On the other hand it looks like the Venice favorites to sweep the Volpi award are either Colin Firth or Viggo Mortensen (we won´t know for sure until later today, 5pm GMT).

But I honestly think this is not an "award friendly" movie per se. This looks rather like the kind of artsy fare that some love and some others loathe, but leaves no one indifferent. And I guess Bad Lieutenant: Por of Call New Orlans will become a cult movie overtime. For now, it´s great that it´s doing the festival rounds and getting some positive buzz... But mainstreams audiences will surely walk away from the theater scratching their heads in lack of understanding... I mean, from what I´ve read the whole thing is instilled with the wackiest brand of humor, mixed with pathos and filth. Audiences will probably be expecting something like Keitel´s Bad Lieutenant, part 2. And anything that doesn´t keep up with prejudiced expectations is disregarded in showbiz.

So in short I guess Nic is in a tight spot with this movie. We´ll see how it goes... I only know that I´M DYING TO SEE IT!!!

BL is one of the lineups in three film festivals, and it has been praised by some that Nic's performance is at its top since LLV. Also, Nic's role is similar to that in LLV: one is a drug addict while the other is an alcoholic.

Do you think BL will become another great triumph in Nic's career, even win him the Oscar again? Why or why not?
