Wow! After hearing Nic talk about how he used to do drugs in his distant past, I can see that Eva Mendes got a bit of a laugh out of the fact that Nic was attempting to make it perfectly clear, he did drugs a very long time ago... Though it was Eva who was recently in the news for her drug addiction.

Nicolas Cage is given the chance to re-experience his days when he dabbled in drugs acting in his latest film, "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans".
Actor Nicolas Cage plays a deranged, drug-addicted detective in "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," re-visiting the corrupt cop role made famous by Harvey Keitel 17 years ago.
In the film, Cage is seen constantly snorting cocaine and smoking crack, all the while protecting his prostitute girlfriend played by Eva Mendes. He,closes in on a drug baron he suspects of executing a family.
Cage said he his role took him back to the past to a time he dabbled in drugs.
"Port of Call New Orleans is much more impressionistic for me because I was looking at a landscape way way in my past of having some experiences with some substance and cause I don't do drugs but many years ago, decades ago, I have memories of that and so it was like trying to look at that landscape and filter it through my sober mind and give you something completely from my sobriety, my dryness of this movie that would have a different kind of art or painting", said Cage.
The Venice Film Festival will end on September 12.
