Deep in my gut, I'm postive Nicolas didn't bring these troubles on himself apart from the fact that he has been working non-stop for years making films and probably thought his financial advisors/accountants were 'taking care of business' properly when obviously they weren't.
Good luck Nic..........

Tracy, thanks so much for the info! I didn´t know things worked that way with the media as regards legal documents.
And Randy... I hink you´re right and I agree with what you said. Nic is not to be absolved, but we can assume he´s not to be blamed either, at least to an extent, since it´s his accountants who undoubtedly must handle this stuff for him. You know, the other time he got into trouble with the I.R.S. I bought it all and believed he was guilty as sin. And as it turned out, it wasn´t that way at all, there were nuances there that were not conveniently explained at first to make the piece of news sound more sensationalistic.
Sooo, I won´t point a finger any more *sigh*.

i feel for him. i love my accountant. he says you pay this much. send a check, here's the form to sign. without him i would be like, duh, what? nic prob. has someone taking care of it, who didn't take care of it properly. does that absolve him? no. but with assets like he has, it would explain a lot. not like the tax code is meant to be understood by mere mortals....LOL

Mara, I 100% agree with you. Unfortunately, the site that posted the pdf file which include's the IRS lien filing against Nic, had rights to do so because... how sad and unfortunate... it is a public document.
Most documents that go through the American court system are accessible to the public. Same as if you were to file for divorce, or file a lawsuit. It's all public access.
I suppose it's all bittersweet because the website is intended to bring to light all of the wrong doers... People who avoid paying their taxes which makes it harder on the people who do pay their taxes. The bittersweet part comes in when someone whom is close to you is involved and you know they would probably NEVER knowingly avoid paying their taxes.
Liens are only filed when the IRS has been unsuccessful in collecting the debt from you and it's used as rather a last resort. I'm no tax expert, but the filing appears to be for both Nic and Alice, who owed taxes from 2007. And $6 million?? I would say, that's alot for even someone as rich as Nic!
Needless to say, this is when I would suspect, being a celebrity sucks because rogue media outlets search for hurtful stories such as this one.
Though I'm sure Nic has surrounded himself around sound financial advisors whom should be working tiresly to get he and his family out of this mess.
Take heart Nic. Financial woes get solved eventually when one is an honest hard worker like you are...
As for the Detroit News site, I think it´s in poor taste that they´re publishing the actual federal legal document. A breach of confidentiality like that could be prosecuted? I mean, none of us would like to see our private legal documents shown to the general public. The media has a right to break the news, but it was completely unnecessary to accompany the article with that pdf file (how did they get it, anyway? Bribing some federal employee?) I loathe this kind of journalists, they´re like vultures.
