Maybe Nic didn't try to dispel the second blurb because he owes no one an explanaton as to his actions in his personal life?

Ya really can't fight a tide when it's coming at you from all directions, ya know?

By the way..........I hope I live long enough to see Nic 'gumming' it at 92.  IMO.....he'll still be a studmuffin and I'll  still be............enamored!   LOL!

Very true Sam. Thing is........we all need to get to a point in our lives when we know we're doing the best we can and that.........that has to be enough for us.   People have many acquaintances but very few real friends in life.  Sad but very true.   Shame that.

I believe among other things, it's what my sister said INCLUDING what my sister refers to as "the asian young girl" issue.

I remember during the first National Treasure movie premiere, the New York Post ran two articles about Alice.  One talked about how, when a reporter asked her about the Declaration of Independence, she had no clue on what that was.  The article went on to say that Nic ran over quickly and asked that "noone ask his wife any questions."

Shortly after that, the Post ran a second article that said, Nic was having major second thoughts about having had married Alice and had asked close friends if they thought he had done the right thing because he wasn't so sure of what he had done, getting married to quickly.  And Yes, I read both articles during the time they were released.

What's interesting, Nic is known for dis-spelling nasty rumors about himself or his family, and so his people dis-spelled the first article about the NT premiere in which the Post wrote a retraction however, his people did not go after or request that the second story be retracted.  Who knows why.

But, Nic said it himself, somehow he just pisses people off.  Though I can give a bit of a Hollywood spin.  The entertainment industry has less affection or appeal for talent who received a free ride via a famous family member.  Nic received a free ride via his uncle Frances Ford Coppola.  Apparently, it doesn't matter if Nic changed his name to Cage, most people feel he would have never gotten anywhere let alone to mega-stardom without the Coppola connection.

The most recent swoon of hate is related to Nic selling out because he's only in it for the paycheck these days which is why he's making so many movies and crappy ones at that.

I'm not sure if anyone on this site dare be too negative when it comes to Nic because lets face it,  it IS a fan site and WE ALL are huge Nic fans, and I suppose I'm a little bias when it comes to Nic because the guy could rob a bank and shoot two people and I'd still have a defense.  GO FIGURE!!  If you read articles, most say they have no idea why and how Cage is still getting action roles because his action days are long over and he just looks silly now.

Again, my biased opinion is he'll ALWAYS be enjoyable on the big screen even if he's 92, gumming his way through dialogue smile! LOL!!

I think it's the fact that some people find it easier to say something mean than to find something nice to say. Especially about someone they don't know. And I agree with the jealousy part as well. When people are jealous they will slam others to make themselves feel better about themselves. And some people just don't like you no matter what you do. I know this first hand.

Okay.....after reading what Tracy wrote in the "I'd like to see" section about what her sister said concerning Nic......

"People talk about Nic's hair because they can't get him on anything else.  He's a good actor and he stays out of trouble.  So they personally attack him about other things like his marriage to the young asian girl and his hair."

I got to wondering what everyone else thinks/feels about our man Nic constantly getting bad press for precisely what Tracy's sister said (sans the young asian girl....I don't hear anything on that score myself).

So my topic question is...............What do you guys think is the reason Nic is always on the receiving end of  thrown daggers?  What is it about him that irritates so many people?

Personally I think it has to do with jealousy pure and simple.  Nic seems to do exactly what he wants as far as moviemaking goes and he gets alot of roles because of his talent and reliable professionalism.   Maybe all the Nic naysayers should take a long and hard look at just WHY Nic is able to do this.

Any opinions?
