'Sorcerer's Apprentice' to talk safety with NYC officials

Crew from Nicolas Cages The Sorcerers Apprentice, plagued by two frightening Times Square car accidents in a three-day span, will be meeting tomorrow with the Mayors Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting to review safety procedures.

On Monday, a Ferrari taking part in a chase scene lost control on rain-slick 7th Avenue and swerved onto the sidewalk, injuring two pedestrians. NYPD were present for the stunt, which was successfully executed eight times before the mishap occurred. The nights filming comprised of a simple driving sequence where a car moves from one lane to another and back again, said, Julianne Cho, associate commissioner of the Mayors Office of Film, in a statement. In the more than 40 year history of the Mayors Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, this is the first accident of its type involving a driving scene.

On Wednesday morning, an SUV jumped the curb and injured several members of the film's production crew. Filming had already wrapped by the time of the accident, and Marybeth Ihle of the Mayor's Office of Film said the incident was "a completely coincidental event" unrelated to the production.

Nicolas Cage was not on the set at the time of either accident.

A representative for Disney, the studio producing the film, maintained that safety measures were and continue to be scrupulously observed.
