KISS OF DEATH
(Encore on Comcast) This isn't just a remake of the famous 1947 film noir; it's a complete '90s reinvention. Grittier and more powerful, it boasts keen-edged direction by Barbet Schroeder and a screenful of terrific performances, especially by David Caruso as an ex-con caught in the middle, Nicolas Cage (left, with Caruso) as a sociopath he must finger, and Michael Rapaport as the sleazeball cousin who gets him into trouble. (R; runs through May 21)
