LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Fast & Furious" raced to its third consecutive No. 1 weekend at the foreign box office, but will likely lose the crown to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" next weekend.
Beginning this week, the studios' summer hotshots take center stage, launching huge offshore rollouts usually at the same time as they open in North America.
"Wolverine," a sci-fi fantasy starring Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber, bows Friday in about 100 territories, Fox said. On May 8, director J.J. Abrams' new-generation "Star Trek" takes off via Paramount in 50 international markets.
Director Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons," a prequel to 2006's "The Da Vinci Code," opens May 15 via Sony. "Da Vinci Code" was huge overseas, grossing $539.7 million, making it the 15th-largest foreign box office earner to date.
Fox's "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," the Ben Stiller comedy sequel to its 2006 predecessor, opens in most foreign markets May 21. According to the distributor, the kickoff will cover about 100 territories. The first "Night at the Museum" grossed $323.6 million overseas.
This weekend, meanwhile, "Fast & Furious" grossed an estimated $15.2 million from 59 territories for an overseas total of $170 million.
"Monsters vs. Aliens" followed with $11.2 million, also from 59 markets, for a foreign haul of $143 million.
The teen comedy "17 Again" was No. 3 with $6.8 million from 17 markets. France contributed $2.8 million. Its early overseas stands at $27.5 million. The Nicolas Cage thriller "Knowing" was No. 4 with $4.1 million from 34 markets for a total of $63.9 million.
A No. 1 U.K. opening for domestic disappointment "State of Play" ($2.4 million) powered the Russell Crowe vehicle to a No. 5 ranking overall and $3.6 million for the weekend. Its early overseas tally stands at $6.1 million from five markets. Because of the ending, some people seem to think that this film is giving you the guidelines to think in only one direction, but I believe that it´s pretty ambigous and you could use it as a springboard to your own ideas, whatever these might be...
As I said, you´re gonna like it. And try not to blink during the shower scene because, as Sam said, it´s sadly over before you know it!
Well if "it makes you think deep" then you have fully answered my question dear mara! Thank you! Absolutely no way I'd want spoilers! So we have thought provoking, depth, and shower scene. I think it's a touch moving and scary too.

Oooh I´m dying to tell you Lula but my lips are sealed, LOL! I don´t want to spoil the movie for you, I´ve got a feeling that you´re gonna love it!
The thing is, we could wait a few more weeks and once all our international friends have got the chance to see KNOWING in their countries, we could set up a thread (with capitalized SPOILER ALERT! on the subject field) dealing with discussions about our personal interpretations of the meaning of the movie. Then when the DVD comes out the rest of you could join in the discussions...
This film certainly is one that raises more questions than provides answers, and that´s a good thing because it makes you think deep, whether you agree or disagree, and that´s so rare in this time and age...

Nice one! It's good to hear the film is doing well! Your sci fi/ shirt off review has reeled me in even more Sam, that combination works for me. More frustrated than ever right now, can't wait for the dvd! I also have loads of questions about this film and the issues it raises... but to ask them and receive answers would probably spoil it for some, so I guess I'll have to just be patient and wait til I can see it myself!
Ok one question...is this film gonna makes people ask questions, raise awareness or change people's minds about certain things? That's what makes intelligent sci fi in my eyes!

This is Great News to hear about his new film doing so well at the Box Office! Nick ROCKS! Nick's shower scene? Wow, I can't wait to see that. We don't have a movie house where we live sorry to say, so I have to go some where else to see the film. Or wait for the DVD. As always I'm collecting all or most of his films on DVD anyway. Nancy
I went to see Knowing lastnight with some friends and the place was absolutely PACKED! I am sooooo glad we got there early because there was hardly anywhere to sit! By the way I LOVED the movie! It was Sci-Fi at its finest at the end. But I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi anyway! He looked really good in the film but I was slightly disappointed in the VERY short shower scene! My friends almost restled me to the floor because after the VERY short shower scene I yelled "THAT'S IT?!!!" Everyone laughed at me in the theater! LOL!
