No worries Mara - thanks very much for clarifying.

No sweat off Nic's back, he still has a castle in England to call home biggrin!

Sorry Tracy... you´re right, it´s a hurried machine translation (quite defective as all machine translations are) I did from my office earlier this morning. And one of the sentences could give way to speculation because it´s ambigous.... my apologies.

The original sentence in German reads like that:

"Am Dienstag war bekannt geworden, dass Cage sich drei Jahre nach dem Kauf von Schloss Neidstein bei Etzelwang wieder getrennt hat".

The translation into English, more or less correct but accurate, would be:

It was known on Tuesday that Cage, three years after having purchased caslte Neidstein in Eztel Wang, has separated (or taken off ) again [from his estate, it goes without saying].

Tracy wrote:

I'm assuming this article was translated?  I'm not clear, what has Nic separated from?  The castle?  The town?  Alice?

I can totally believe the part about the economic meltdown.  Though Nic once said in an old interview, one of his major problems is, as soon as he gets money, he spends it though you would think time and experience have moved him on.

But I believe Oom is right, taxes, mortgages and upkeep on these properties are ridiculously expensive in addition to the taxes he has to pay on the money he makes.

I'm sure you know, once the IRS decides to audit you (just once) like they did Cage, you will forever be on their radar.  So things you may have gotten away with writing off, you can for get about it.

Just my who-cares two cents smile.

You're right Tracy.  Once you have triggered an IRS audit, it's well known they watch you closely for many years to come.  Hopefully Nic has really good financial advisors.  Although....and this is my opinion only......any financial advisors that advise someone to invest so much money into so many different homes (Non-INCOME producing ventures) isn't a good financial advisor.

But!  You do have to invest your money somewhere and usually (except in a recession) real estate is a safe bet.  I hope Nic is diversified in other real estate holdings and it's not just in the housing market.

As to the 'seperated' comment......I would think that the translation of the article is what is to account for the question mark.

Only because I would think that if Nic HAS maritally seperated,  it would be all over the news by now.

BTW.....don't be such a stranger Girl!  We miss ya!   :)

I don't know.  Since he is apparently an A+ workaholic from the looks of things, I can see him saying something of the sort...of not being able to say NO to work that appeals to him.

I guess only he and the interviewer knows for sure if this interview took place and reported his words correctly, eh?   :)

You know the line that made me smell a rat: "I find it difficult to say no [to projects]". It doesn´t square with what Nic has been saying right and left...

The rest of the article makes perfect sense... But they gaffed that line, therefore, the rest of things he supposedly said sound like they were made up too. It´s just an impression I´ve got, but I could be wrong or course....

Ya know.............I think this interview has some credence to it.  It makes sense ya know....what it is saying about Nic having no time to utilize the castle.  He has so many homes and each of them incur huge costs on taxes and upkeep.  What is the point of having so many houses if you never sit still in one place long enough to make them into homes?  Why pour your hard earned money into all these beautiful homes if you never, ever use them?

Just a side note here: I bet the interview is totally made up and it never happened. But as I´m not 100% sure, I´m posting it here nevertheless.

Nicolas Cage: Niedstein castle does not currently fit into my life.

Hamburg / Etzel Wang (ddp-bay). Hollywood star Nicolas Cage is selling his Oberpfalz Neidstein castle with mixed feelings. "Much as I love the castle it was, unfortunately at the moment, maybe it's just not in my life" said the 45-year-old actor to the magazine "TV Movie". Fortunately, he has found a buyer in his former adviser, the Attorney Konrad Wilfurth Amberger, who wants to restore the historic building. "I admit it, I therefore like him for that."

On Tuesday was known that Cage has three years after the purchase of Neidstein at EtzelWang has once again separated. "I would reduce my property now," said the actor. It has been speculated in the media, due to previous sales that the global financial crisis could also have hit Mr. Cage.

In EtzelWang the withdrawal of the Hollywood star did not cause a big disappointment. "The community had no contact with Mr. Cage." Several times we had tried to contact the actor. "But there was never anything back," Mayor Roman Berr said on Tuesday. Cage allegedly had approached his palace on helicopter last year. "I just has a busy schedule," reasoned the actor's absence.

In this year alone, the Oscar-winner ( "Leaving Las Vegas") has shot five films according to the report. "I find it difficult to say no," said Cage. As an actor, he felt a certain responsibility towards people. On 9 April the thriller "Knowing" opens in German cinemas. Cage plays an astrophysicist who wants to prevent a global catastrophe.

Cage acquired 16th century Nedistein castle in 2006 and leaves it in its present form. The purchase price was around two million euros.
