LOL! Of course you must feel protective toward your big brother, hehehe...

I don´t know Randy, what I said is just my opinion and as Nic himself said many times, a movie means whatever you want to make out of it. Maybe you´ll find a different vibe to the storyline, but that´s sooo enriching, to have dif points of view!

And I have to agree with you both in that Nic and Angelina had no chemistry whatsoever in GISS... But he definitely had a thing going on with Eleanor, that´s for sure...

good morning mara!
he is aggressive, but most officers i know are like that. comes with the job. and let's face it, these women are CREEPY! i am going to watch it again with your comments in mind and try to find the source of that vibe. as a card carrying feminist, i was horrified when the reviews came out and my sisters were all up in arms. maybe i just feel protective of nic, cause he's my bro (ha!).

we are definately on the same page. i liked the cast in giss. i liked the cars, and nic looked hot, of course, but angelina and he had no chemistry. two beautiful people, and they just seemed too forced. he had better chemistry with kathleen turner in peggy sue, and that was a hate, hate relationship. with ang, it was almost ambivalent. just didn't work for me. u also picked out my fav point from the articlesmile

And I especially love one viewpoint of what Mr. Mendelson brings forward:

"The issue is that critics and pundits inexplicably choose to ignore the smaller stuff and then use the mainstream tripe to nail him to the wall as the poster boy of an 'actor who became a performer'. What's wrong with that as long as he does what he wants to do? We should all be so lucky."

I'm totally with you, Randygirl! This is a fairly impartial comment on Nic IMHO.
Sorry I haven't seen The Wicker Man... so I don't know whether it's good or not.

I liked some parts of Wicker Man too... especially Nic playing off Elen Burstin. Their confrontational scenes were very good IMHO. Maybe it wasn´t an excellent movie, but it wasn´t a terrible movie either. The audience got cunningly manipulated by a script whose main flaw was that it took itself way too seriously...

I merely think people were looking for an excuse to make fun of Nic, and they got it, period.

As for the mysoginistic undertones you mention, Randy, I did get this kind of vibe many times during the movie: I think unpleasant Edward Malus despises women because he´s been unlucky in love. Note how scornfully he looks at the police woman who pays him a visit at the beginning of the story, or how rudely he addresses the women who are gathered at the inn in the island, or how aggressive he gets towards the teacher at the school... Not that those bitchy ladies are terribly nice to him either, LOL! In that sense, when he punches that horrible landlady you might find some relief...a guilty pleasure, because the script has made you side with the man against those old hags who look like witches and behave like demons... Heck, the entire island is turned into an example of how dreadful a women´s oligarchy can get... only in the author´s imagination of course. A misogynistic author IMO. We Nicsters are way NICer than that, huh? LOL!

In all honesty, it wasn't really Nic's acting in Wickerman, it was the awful script and that silly bear costume!  It wasn't meant to be funny but it was.

Lets face it, 98% of the critics despise Cage because they believe he's no longer a true actor - he's crossed over to the dark side.  If Nic isn't acting in movies like "Leaving Las Vegas" or "Adaptation", the critics will dismiss him.

Though, it really doesn't matter because critics don't make up the majority of moviegoers who spend their hard earned cash at the boxoffice.

People still love Cage no matter what the critics say - and that has been proven with his back-to-back #1 movies - "Bangkok Dangerous" and "Knowing"

Ok, let´s face it: with every new Nic opening, discussions spring, Pro and Anti Nic Cage debaters endelessly pondering about his abilities or lack thereof...

"In Defense of Nic Cage", reads the title... What do you think, guys? Everybody is entitled to their opinion, including... HIM. If he wants to take chances and he trusts his choices, then more power to him. I love most of his movies, but I don´t like absolutely everything he´s done, though... boy, he´s got "elephant balls" like Jim Carrey said, LOL!
