RE: Lord Of War

I've seen the movie and enjoyed it for what it was.

I saw the movie as a modern day tale of something like Faust, where a man has sold his soul to the devil so that he could be rich and have the finer trappings of life, irregardless of what it did to his personal honor and self respect as a human being.   In that regard, I didn't have much sympathy for Nic's character.

I do think Nic did an excellent job in the movie.

A good movie. A unique movie as well. Nic Cage is not the stock lead man and it's one of his most morally questionable roles. I kept thinking it was going to end with some big moralising message, but the fact it didn't had a powerful effect that was overall a bit more satisfying in its originality for a movie of this type. It was a bit like a gangster film in some ways-with Nic starting out clean cut, but then slowly acting in a more morally questionable way and becoming more morally desensitised.

I thought it was a great character for Nic Cage mainly because it was something different. SO often he plays the unquestionably virtuous or likeable lead man. Some parts in this movie we dont like our lead, and we rarely see him as virtuous. It was just a cool and kinda bleak movie overall. I found the pace quite slow and you had to really pay attention, but it really was a well written and entertaining character piece.

Good writing, good acting, I liked it, I'd give it about 3.5 stars because I just found myself a bit disengaged from it. I think this was the nihilistic message and the slow pace combining. Still, a good watch and something different, which is rare nowadays!

Anyone else seen Lord Of War, and if so, what are your opinions on it?
