RE: For anyone who wants to read DRACULA

i am trying to read it as i can, but my first reaction was to the incredible graphics. then i got a bit sidetracked by the french. classic french, and louisiana patois are close couisins, but not identical. so i am translating as i go. uh oh, forgot that d*** shift key again. i think it may be a hopeless cause. :0

I hope you enjoy Voodoo Child Randy one, it is gripping and dark and humorous and interesting and compelling...

i really got a thrill out of reading something from the pure source of Nic's and Weston's creativity. We know it of Nic, but you can feel Weston's flavour in there so strongly. He has a fantastic rich deep and poetic imagination. Whether he writes music or more graphic novel type stuff I hope he keeps writing because it seems to be io his soul.

By the way, i can feel myself making the crossover into non capitalization...it feels less ego driven to not write 'I' So don't give it up!wink.gif

Someone should find Nic's people and get you and Mara autographed copies for all your hard work on the forum. After all, it's the least you guys deserve for your devotion and time.

My son would love a copy of that.  I didn't know they were selling it on Amazon.  Thanks for the info!

side note... i just ordered voodoo child from amazon. it is a comic book or graphic novel, if you prefer, series done by none other than nic and weston. they have the individual copies, a bound softback or hardback.

You are most welcome ladies.  Glad to make the little 'grey cells' do some thinking!  And I'm with you Lula........the name 'Cradle of Filth'.......is truly a mind warping one.

Lol! Don't you just love those lyrics! smile.gif And Cradle of Filth is one of those names I feel conflicted about, its both alluring and repulsing at the same time!
Thanks for posting the song Oom and you're welcome for the book link. smile.gif

Really?   How clever!   I love it!

I just googled Mina Harker and Wikipedia came up with some interesting stuff that I've forgotten from reading Dracula lore.

I have to confess I laughed when I read she was a schoolteacher cuz um.....I've been thought to be that many times (which I am not).  Another thing I laughed at was to find out that Mina's name was changed to Ellen in Murnau's Nosferatu cuz my real middle name is Ellen.  And last but not least, I loved reading that Mina and Dracula shared telepathy between them cuz I'm a big fan of stuff like that.

The link for anyone else who is interested.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mina_Harker

Oh....and here are the lyrics to the song by Cradle of Filth that is mentioned in the article.....

LOVESICK FOR MINA
One might see in Mina
My disease
But it is She who has infected me
For all eternity

As the sun slips the tearaway stars
Into the scented scheme of night
I kissed her mouth like a dark red rose
Set upon a marbled dream of white
So pure of thought like a Vestal statue
Jewelled with a God-lent grace
I was close to coming when She bid adieu
Fuelled by the heartache rent upon her face there

Oh Mina, obscener
Thoughts obsess my days
Oh Mina, obscener
Thoughts possess me
That I must now obey

They say the darkest hour
Is that before the dawn
When nothing in ones power
Can dissipate the great forlorn
Shadows of the fire that haunt me
Like risen whispers of her name
For dawn is a dusk
Wherein needs must
Erupt from the grave, aflame

Written in the dead of night
And riding on the burning wind
Smitten by her read delight
My words alight like leaves of sin

Stepping through a mirror
The princess on the emerald glass
Brought me one sip nearer
Loves infernal past

They say Hell hath no furies
Like a woman scorned by life
When the Heavenly Judge and juries
Participate to chain this wife
With forced virtues, Her secret needs
Drew on my foreign blood
On warm wet night, with storm-wracked bites
I gave her Eden after the flood

Written in the dead of night
And riding on the burning wind
Smitten by her read delight
My words alight like leaves of sin

Verona, Marishka, Aleera
Brides of old and goddesses all
Forgive my wishes to be always near her
Forever or whenever seas recall

This Aphrodite from my embrace
For as Mars (whom her lips placate)
I tore these shores with wars of hatred
Before our Paris set his fate
In Helen, one might find a mistake
In winning tragedy
For all eternity

I am still lovesick for Mina
I am still so lovesick for her

LOL! You're welcome mara! biggrin.gif

I actually feel quite guilty about suggesting online books, i used to be far more uptight and pure about the whole thing..... books being tactile experiences as intended and all....I used to hate the electronic medium, I even wrote my final literature dissertation by hand....tut.... can you believe that? LOL. smile.gif

I have a friend who runs the best book store, it's tiny but crammed full with ancient tomes and first editions... it is like stepping into another world in another time...reading from an old book, it simply can't be replaced by anything else.

But, I also believe in making things accessible and love the internet!biggrin.gif

I hope you enjoy it!smile.gif

Wow Lula, THANKS SO MUCH HONEY! You just saved me some bucks, I mean euros... I always wanted to read that book, but never got my hands on it... until now.

Now I just have to figure out how to bring my laptop with me to the equivalent of a "dusty old attic"... I mean, I´ve got the dust all right all around me, being a bachelorette and all, but the attic is sadly missing in my first floor apartment, LOL!!

There is nothing like getting your hands on the book, especially an old one with a mysterious aura that smells of history....and reading it in a dusty old attic by candlelight....but.....if not, you can read it here!
