The same sentence stood out for me Gwen! "The art of science and magic" ...alchemy! Interesting they've introduced an "evil magician"... That adds a new dimension to things doesn't it?
Let's hope the darkness is ultimately transformed by love energy! I do hope there is a goodly amount of wizardry and magic, darkness and light as well as a massive dose of cheese!
Having read the comments about Nic looking fairly 'normal', I took that to mean they were not going down the stereotypical wizard route...with the wispy beard and the pointy hat? I guess it's important to have those cues though, What flavour do you think this film will have? I guess as it's Disney, it will be child friendly, and maybe quite light

I just hope he doesn't wear one of those 'dunce' caps!

The movie sounds pretty attractive. I love this sentence especially:"The sorcerer gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic to prepare him to fight the forces of darkness"I think Nic has something magical inside. Imagine him in a sorcerer's suit with a gray goatee....
Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Alfred Molina is joining the cast of the Disney fantasy film "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" as an evil magician. The actor, 55, joins previously announced casts, Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, and Teresa Palmer.
The plot centers on an average college student (Baruchel), who is unwillingly recruited to work for sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Cage). The sorcerer gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic to prepare him to fight the forces of darkness, including the evil magician Horvath (Molina), in modern Manhattan. Palmer will play Baruchel's love interest.
Per Hollywood Reporter, Cage is executive producing with his Saturn Films partner Norm Golightly as well as Todd Garner, Barry Waldman and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' Mike Stenson and Chad Odman.
The film starts shooting this month in New York.
