Great powers of perception here, Lula: Pessoa was very interested in occultism, and he also flirted with the free-masons. He made his own horoscopes, since he was versed in Astrology. An English pshychic was among his best friends. On the other hand, he seemed very little interested in daily life: reportedly he died a virgin, despite the fact that he had a girlfriend for many years. The legend goes, he only kissed her once, in a streetcar. Quite a character, huh? I´m more inclined to believe all his heteronyms were different expressions of himself, but that´s just the old boring down-to-earth me...
I too would love to see Nic in an improv movie... maybe by Lars Von Trier or anyone else from the Dogme movement? Who knows...
And please keep your ramblings coming, we love reading them!
Nice one mara! Pessoa is a fascinating man, as is the whole issue of heteronyms...I feel that every artist to some degree is 'channeling', the creative force, something larger than themselves, and what always goes through my mind with Pessoa is where do you differentiate between multiple personalities or being a channel or psychic? It sounds like a form of automatic writing!
I know it's a matter of personal belief, but perhaps he was in touch with his higher self, other aspects of consciousness, and guides, angels, spirits? I guess it doesn't really matter, but it is amazing that he could be such a pure channel for so many different aspects either of himself or something more spiritual.
What an incredibly unusual life. The man must have been frazzled though! Or maybe, as he described, it was a case of blissful ecstasy?
I can identify with having different energies moving through me when I write but not this many!
I can totally see where you are coming from with the Nic connection mara, but I think an actor is making a conscious decision to become the character already mostly written, although in Nic's case I do feel he plays the massive part in creating the role, and gets into this almost trance mode where he is channeling a character.
But it's not the same as the actor crew and director turning up with no plan, no script and going ok, let's see what comes through and creating it from total scratch! That would be an interesting film though with TOTAL improv and instant creativity! I'd love to see Nic do that, completely create the character and perform, that's why I would lurve him to write. Enough from me now this is way too long and rambling

... if you consider actors are like poets, which by all accounts is Nic´s case...
Fernando Pessoa was a Portuguese poet, one of the 20th century greatest. He entertained many personalities, like an actor woud do, which he called heteronyms... they were like a parallel universe full of people created by him, and all of them were him....
Anyway, I just found this poem of his and wanted to share his genius here... His words could apply to Nic and to any creative mind really...
Translation (not mine):
The poet is a faker Who's so good at his act He even fakes the pain Of pain he feels in fact.
And those who read his words Will feel in what he wrote Neither of the pains he has But just the one they don't.
And so around its track This thing called the heart winds, A little clockwork train To entertain our minds.
