RE: KNIGHTS such as Lavey (Nic in SOTW)

Your right about that Mara!   BTW, Albert Einstein had alot of things to say about curiosity.  One of my favorites is this...

"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality."

Thanks Lula!   I'll let you in on a little secret.  In one particular way, I've always been a bit of a geek and it started early on in life.  I was very, very poor growing up and I spent alot of time in libraries, picking out books and such to read since I didn't have alot of toys and we didn't have a TV for years.  I remember how even as a child of four or five, while looking thru the card indexes, I would start jumping from topic to topic....constantly finding something new to read about or research.  It was fun to me.  Sorta like a puzzle.

Anyhooo....I have a mind like a sponge in that regard.  I know a little bit about a lot of things but not alot about any one thing in particular.   Being able to access the net with a stroke of a fingertip amazes me and I simply can find stuff quickly that sparks my interest.

It's how I find such weird ass things that I'm compelled to share with all of you!  LOL!

Ooh the legend of King Arthur is as alive in my mind today as it ever was! smile.gif
There are many things that are best left behind in history, but some things never die.
Great posts Pita b, I enjoyed reading through all that info you shared. You are very good at finding stuff, and it's a great to have a context for The Season of The Witch smile.gif

Not really, Mara.  Like I said before, for some reason or another I got to thinking about the topics of KNIGHTS while busy in my kitchen today and then sat down for lunch and simply googled the word.  It's amazing what is at your fingertips these days....LOL!

Wow Bonnie... You´ve been busy today girl, thanks for sharing, that was an interesting read...

I remember feeling in love with the whole idea of Knighthood and Courtly love as a teen after reading John Steinbeck´s adaptation of La Morte d´Artur... I think the title of the book is The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights. I strongly recommend it, it´s an enjoyable introduction to something which was sacred once but has lost meaning altogether and we don´t even conceive about today. (Sorry... I´m the skeptical bore I know).

Today while I was puttering around the kitchen choosing spices and such for preparing my Thanksgiving Feast, I got to thinking about Medieval Knights and what their lives were actually representative of.   So.....during my lunch break I sat and googled 'Knights'.  I ran across several interesting sites and here are a few I thought you guys might enjoy......

Middle Ages Knights

Life of the Knights in the Middle Ages
It was the duty of a Middle Ages Knight to learn how to fight and so serve their liege Lord according to the Code of Chivalry. The Code of Chivalry dictated that a Knight should be brave and fearless in battle but would also exhibit cultured Knightly qualities showing themselves to be devout, loyal, courteous and generous. Weapon practise included enhancing skills in the two-handed sword, battle axe, mace, dagger and lance. A Knight would be expected to guard the Castle and support his liege lord in Middle Ages warfare. Details of the life of Middle Ages knights in a castle, together with castle warfare, are covered in the section about Middle Ages Castles.

Knighthood & Knights in the Middle Ages
To gain Knighthood in the Middle Ages was a long and arduous task. Knighthood was not bestowed purely because a young man was the son of a noble. There were many steps to achieving a knighthood, requiring years of training. The steps towards achieving a knighthood started with training as a page and then as a squire, also referred to as esquire.

The Knights job & the Knights Code of Chivalry in the Middle Ages
The Knights job in the Middle Ages centred around enhancing their Knightly skills in the use of weapons, horsemanship and medieval warfare. The sons of Nobles, except those who were destined to take Holy Orders, were placed in the service of the great Lords of the land. These sons of the Middle Ages nobles were sent to live in the castle of their liege lord and commence their education and learn the skills required as a Knight. The Middles Ages castles served as 'Knight School!' Strict Codes of Conduct dictated the life of a Knight during the Middle Ages and the strict etiquette of their everyday life revolved around the Code of Chivalry, courtly manners and courtly love. A knight would start their life in a castle as a Page and then move up to the role of a Squire.
