You´re right, the movie really stays with you. In my opinion, it´s the ultimate tale of unconditional love... taken to extremes. And Nic certainly gave a performance full of truth... true to life. I know some alcoholics in various stages of their illness and can tell how accuarate his acting is.
Welcome to the forum Mario! Please feel free to post anytime.
And thanks for explaining your views here in more detail for us all to read... It´s very brave of you to come and talk about your mom, I hope Leaving Las Vegas to some extent has helped you to deal with such a hard thing to cope with.

One for Mario to share his view with us(though I can't fully understand what he's talking about), and the other for Mara to post it!! Thanks!!
Well, The Family Man is my fav to date. As for Leaving Las Vegas, I haven't seen it, but I'll try to get a copy ASAP!!
What I tried to say was in fact that there are movies that are no more than that: just movies, you watch sometimes and thats it.
And there are movies that where you feel a certain emotional bond with. Just like some songs you hear or will hear. Over a couple of years they will remind you on certain situations.
My special bond with LLV is the fact that my mother commited suicide the same way as Ben (Nic) the maincharacter in the book/movie. No she did not burn all her belongings and went to Vegas, but she drank herself determined to death. I saw the movie earlier and liked it very much, but after the described happend in my own family, the movie and Nic's outstanding performance engraved itself even more in my memory.
FM brings a wide array of emotions to very many people I think. Because the movie has it all. For everyone there is the question: 'What if I had said one more time yes instead of no in the past?' One little decision can give your life a complete different direction. The plot on its own was fantastic and I think that Nicolas Cage and Téa Leoni shifted it to the next level. I hope this explaniation helps (otherwise I keep the topic up to date on my blog).
This is not your regular Nic Cage tribute, but a very insightful view on our fave actor and two very different movies of his, LLV and FM.... Thanks so much Mario for sharing your views on Nic with us!
