Hope all the NICohalics are doing well! Cage is just as warm and charming as he comes across in interviews as he is on the set. Or at least, this is what I've observed. I've seen him interact at only a couple of parties and on the set but at the parties, he was always very chatty, always smiling and has no problem in enjoying himself at the bar!
thank you very much for sharing this story. You really did it. WAW. This must be great to meet Nic, especially if he said Hi to you. Could you tell me how did you feel like, when you met him for the first time. Did you feel something like aura or incandesence around him? LOL. No, no, seriously, I am really interesting about your feelings. A number of us, NICaholics will never meet him, so we could be grateful to know everything about this event.
It was truly a very cool experience. And you are correct, Nic rarely speaks to anyone expecially background when he's working - which is why I think the PAs on the set were giving me kudos. And actually, had I not turned around and stared like an idiot he might not have spoken and I surely wasn't going to say anything first for fear of getting kicked off the set.
In fact, I've done lots of background on movies & television where I've had the pleasure of seeing A-listers in action: Tom Cruise, Dennis Quaid, The Entourage crew, Will & Grace, etc. and I don't think I've seen anyone be as focused on a set as Nic.
It's sort of an unspoken rule never to speak to the actors so you just know going in 'not' to do it.
Thanks, Tracy for your personal experiences of meeting with Oliver Stone and Nicolas Cage in the movie "World Trade Center". You are a lucky lady to have that opportunity to be an background actress in any of Nick's films. Thanks, for sharing your story to us. I love to hear anything about Nicolas Cage and how he really is in person. Glad to hear he's ok with fans when you meet with him when you can. Nancy
Tracy, your story is incredible, thanks for sharing it. I have heard that during shootings you´re not allowed to talk to the starts unless they address you first, and Nic is said to keep to himself in order to stay focused, so... I´m glad you got to be talked to by both the star and the director... that speaks volumes! Congrats!
It was absolutely surreal. After it was over, I kept playing those days over and over in my head.
Can I give you a tidbit? Well... after we shot one scene, in this case, I just so happen to be one out of about 500 background (there were about 8 of us in the scene) that was selected and fortunate enough to shoot a specific scene involving Nic.
Anyhoo, when the take was over and we were instructed to reset, as I was walking back to my starting position, Oliver Stone said to me "good job!" I ALMOST CRAPPED MY PANTS... well skirt... I couldn't believe what I was hearing... I think I had the biggest and dumbest look on my face... I said "thank you very much Mr. Stone." He smiled and walked away.
Then later, as we were shooting the same scene, we were resetting again and as I was walking back, I felt a wind at my skirt so I turned around and there was Nic walking right behind me... He said "Hi" and I said "Hi" and we drifted in opposite directions... I couldn't believe it!!!! Everyone on the set kept saying I was the luckiest background actress to have had Oliver tell be "good job" and to have gotten a "hi" out of Nic !!!
Thanks for answering my question! I was asking cause I once saw a joint interview in which the interaction between Nic and Oliver Stone suggested some of what you´re relating... Nic hoped a particular scene they had shot would make it into the movie, but Stone had decided to edit it out. He put it in the DVD though. Nic as McLoughlin is covered in debris and has a vision of himself going back to his bedroom and sees his wife mourn him. I´ts a little bit surreal and he looks like a ghost.
Tracy, you were so lucky to witness the clashing of those two creative forces at work, Nic´s and Stone´s... Wow what I wouldn´t have given to be there merely listening to them.
Tracy, it´s so cool you were there... I´m curious, how did Stone take it? Was he game for Nic´s suggestions?
Hi Mara:
Well... I saw the two going back and forth after specific scenes were shot - not necessarily arguing put definitely disagreeing. Nic did seem ever so slightly frustrated. Stone, as you know is an amazing and seasoned director so he definitely wanted Nic to understand what he was trying to get out of the scenes versus what direction Nic wanted to go.
Ultimately, they decided to compromise meaning they shot it both ways - though judging from the movie, on those specific scenes I referred to... some did make it into the movie, though I really couldn't tell who's version made it - Stone's or Nic's??
I've always wondered what it would be like to be involved with a policeman or firefighter? I suppose I too would be terrified if he weren't home for dinner when he said he was going to be.
Gosh, you're a strong woman Jenny - YOU GO GIRL!!!!
I must admit, it was sort of funny watching Nic on "World Trade." You know, directors in the past have said it's a different experience working with Cage because he has his own ideas on how a scene should work which would be the complete opposite of how the director sees it - most seasoned actors are like that.
I saw some of that on the set! Oliver Stone would tell Nic how it should be and Nic would want to do it another way... As I said he was very much into his craft.
The movie turned out great which is why I would love to see Nic direct more .
I am happy that my hypothetic question made you discussing and I would like to say that it is OK if somebody has the same doubts like me.
But Tracy, I am enthusiastic that yod were "around" the World Trade Center, and around the NIC, as well. I love this movie. It always makes me exciting. You know, my housband is not just police man, but he is a member of car accident rescue team, and I am always nervous when he is late with his return back home from the duty. So, I was feeling like all of these families waiting for their dears, when I was watching the movie.
This must be great to meet Nicolas Cage, and as I hear from your messages, I am not affraid anymore..... jenny
When I met Nicolas.. The first was at a party in Hollywood. He seemed very reserved and very gracious. Since then, he's always very open to saying hello and very polite. When I saw him working on "World Trade", he was very focused and very much into his craft. He is just as amazing in person as he is in movies.
Welcome to the club, Jenny! I actually met Nic while he was filming The Wicker Man and I have to say he is nothing like I thought he would be. I was completely terrified to go over and speak to him, but I was with my dad, and he walked me over to meet Nic. I have to say that Nic was the most gracious gentleman I've ever met. He was very touched that we stopped to speak to him, and I left feeling like I had just caught up with an old friend. If he's ever in your part of the world, don't be afraid to go up to him. He's just a regular guy (with a HOT body!!!) and gorgeous eyes!
Your question is something that I have asked myself numerous times. I would have no idea what I would say to him except that I admire what he's done, the courage he's shown and the depth of his personality he reveals to make himself a better person and a better actor. I find that I worry that the image I've built up for myself couldn't possibly be matched by the actual man; he's quite high on that pedastal I've fashioned just for him. But at the same time, I can put my fears to rest because I know there is a reason I idolize him and it has nothing to do with the characters he plays in movies and everything to do with who he is. No, I've never met him and I highly doubt I ever will (I'm known for rather sour luck) but there are some things I just know. I try to find the best in every person and he is of no exception to that rule.
And I know that no matter how high my expectations, they are not nearly as wonderful as the man himself.
As for what you said, Mara, I agree! I'm sure he does worry, at least somewhat, of how his fans will perceive him when he meets us. =)

I am happy to be here in this forum, cause I think, this makes me to be close to NIC and all of this around him. Of course, we will be glad to meet NIC, so this question was just something like hypothesis. It is almost impossible to meet him, I am from Slovakia, the country in the middle Europe whithout any plans to visit United States in near time. I agrre with you, Nicolas Cage and Nicolas Coppola are not he same persons. I know it. I am an university teacher and I know to playing my role when I am teaching my students, but in my private space I am just "me" - mam, wife, woman at the street. I have a message for Warped Woman: We will miss you, but I think If you fill to do this, than this is the right move for you. All the best. jenny
Jenny, you´ve hit the nail with your quetion...Now, that´s a predicament we´ve all wondered about here, huh?
How would it be to actually meet the man? Would we faint to the floor, stammer some remarks about how much we love his movies, or simply drool to death in his proximity?? Would he disappoint us by being rude, by ignoring us... or would he fulfill our fan´s expectations by being civil and approachable...??? Some of us will never know, some will be fortunate enough to tell for themselves.
But what I´m positive about is...Should we bump into him, we would be left under the impression that we had just met Nic Cage, the great actor. But the real Nicolas Coppola is just a regular guy. Maybe HE would be afraid to not fulfill our expectations, LOL!!
It will be a great!!!I ask him about start of his career, and can I be actor!(For all of you who don`t know,I want be actor)AAlso is great to meet Nic at while and have a chanse to speak with him!!!

Hey everybody here, there is a greeting just from the middle of Europe.
We all here are NICaholics, fans etc. What will you do, if you will have the possibility to meet Nicolas Cage and talk to him for a while? What would you ask first? And, are´nt you affraid of to meet him? What if this could disappoint you? Somebody said here, that what we see, is well orchestrated persona. What if he will be completely different when comparing to "MY dream " NIC?
