Lula, itīs the scene in which Birdyīs mom takes away the baseball the kids are playing with after it accidentally comes in into her backyard, and Al Columbato and his kid brother are trying to convince her to give it back to them in order to proceed with the game.
But the womanīs so fed up with all those intruding baseballs filling up her backyard that she keeps storing them away... Which later on triggers a most dramatic denoument in the film, containing THE single most heart wrenching monologe by Nic in his entire career.... (in my humble opinion, of course)... this stuff he calls "emotional vomit".... must have been indeed. I canīt imagine how he must have felt after shooting that... drained to the bone at the very least.
Oh yes! Thankyou Mara, my brain was temporarily dazzled by those pecs...... in fact I think in the scene I was thinking of, Nic is entirely topless.....
However, I mustn't insult the whole flavour of the film, which is as you say drenched with emotionally dramatic heart wrenching noonents...that's a bold statement about Nic's monologue Mara....I have been trying to think of another that could match it and I think you might be right.... I wonder if over time Nic himself has come to feel more comfortable with the pure quality of his performance? If that's emotional vomit, I'm quite happy for him to keep throwing up all over me!
