Marta, Ms Turner said Nic had been fined for driving drunk and that he stole a little dog during the filming of Peggy Sue Got Married. Then she had to admit publicly it was a falsity after Nic sued her and won.

I agree with much that you said Cagey.  There really was no reason (even if what she wrote was true) to write what she did about Nic.   It must have been done with the intent to simply fill the pages with words, however nasty they might be.

Maybe there is some truth to what she wrote. Even if everything she wrote is 100% true, it doesn't justify including that information in a book. The excuse "everyone else has done it," doesn't make it right either. If she needs to dig up dirt on Nicolas and anyone else she dragged through the mud in her book, she isn't an interesting enough person to sell books based on the merits of her own career. It's a pity that she feels people wouldn't want to read about her accomplishments alone. She must have really low self-esteem to think that she would need to dredge up past mistakes other celebrities have made in their lives in order to attract people to her life story. Nothing she has written, true or not, will ever change that Nicolas is a gifted actor and a genuinely nice person. No, I have never met him and I am not putting him on a pedestal. However, I have talked to others who have met him and every person I know who has is unanimous on the fact that Nicolas is a great guy, so since I trust the people who told me about encounters with Nic, I tend to believe he is a good person. I can't say the same about Ms. Turner.

While I appreciate your viewpoint, Cagey, I don't think it's wise to automatically assume that there isn't some grain of truth in Turner's stories.

Twenty five years ago, Nicolas was a very different man than the one he is today.  He, himself, related in numerous interviews thru the ensuing years, several stunts he pulled back in the 80's when he was a wreckless youth with no reputation to protect.

I just sincerely believe it's never a wise thing to put someone, even Nic, on a pedestal who we don't know personally.  Therefore, I keep an open mind when it comes to things like this.

BTW, I found that wreckless, youthful and honest Nic of the 80's and 90's to be a highly intriguing and passionate young man.

It's one of the things I always liked about Nic best....

Also, Cagey, Turner didn't just go after Nic in her book, she wrote about several other leading men and other industry happenings.  She's not the first entertainer to write a memoir such as this.

A couple of days ago, I read a news article about the release of Kathleen Turner's autobiography and some shocking allegations she made about Nicolas. At the time, I didn't want to discuss her claims here even though I knew they weren't true. I felt that Nicolas did not need the negativity repeated on his own website. However, now that I know Turner has retracted her lies and wants to apologize, I feel it is important to make it known. There is a chance members here could read the false claims or find out about them from friends, and I felt it was crucial that it is known that Turner has admitted she was wrong and that Nicolas was somewhat vindicated. I say somewhat because her explanation is insufficient and she is not repenting enough as far as I am concerned. Also, all those unsold copies of her book should be destroyed and new books should not be printed until they are revised to reflect the truth. It's both pathetic and sad that this woman felt she needed to attempt to tarnish Nicolas's reputation in order to sell her memoirs.
