Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in the thriller KNOWING, directed by I, ROBOT helmer Alex Proyas, reports VARIETY. Summit Ent. is funding and distributing the production.
In the film, a teacher, played by Cage, discovers a time capsule that contains startling predictions that have already come true, which leads him to believe that he and his son are involved in the end of the world, which will arrive by the end of the week.
Escape Artists developed the original idea for the film with novelist Ryne Pearson, who pitched the concept and penned the first draft, which was then rewritten by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, with Proyas and Stuart Hazeldine doing the final draft.
Escape Artists heads Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are the producers, with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone co-producing. Norm Golightly and David Bloomfield are serving as exec producers.
