now lets not get our feathers ruffled-lol  yes nic has played these characters but HOW WELL-- even nic himself laughs at the vampires kiss performance it's WAY OVER THE TOP!!!!! this is weird "nic's my favorite actor but im argueing against him" well anyways he's great but just showing up and playing characters isnt always enough-- after all will ferrell shows up--lol  hey nic is awesome when you play into his strEnghts but it seems so hard to find something he isnt crucified for either "OVERACTING"-- OR ACTING "WOODEN"  i gues maybe he isnt always so wise about the movies he puts himself in... lol   and nic please stop DOING THESE BLASTED ACTION MOVIES...LOL in the end in my opinion and not just talking with my heart it's okay for a guy to be youre favorite actor but sometimes you need a reality check---check out THE DEPARTED-- and watch leonardo knock it out the park holy **** he was amazing in that..

i think Nic is a better actor though both are good.  Nic most likely taught things to Johny Depp considering that it was Nic that helped him and got an agent to look at him in the beginning.

Um....I'm sorry Gonzo.....but Johnny Depp vs Nic?   OMG...........there is no comparison to me AT ALL.   Johnny can play weird ass characters but he can't play normal, down to earth characters at all. 

Nic.....on the other hand, can play weirdo to the hilt (Vampire's Kiss), tortured love victim (Moonstruck), Intellectuals (Adaptation), run of the mill suburbanite fathers (Family Man) or hardworking straightlaced FBI/Secret Service Men (The Rock and Guarding Tess) and now....even.....a Comic Book Hero.

To me.......comparing the two (Cage vs Depp) is ridiculous!   Hands down, Nic blows it away......

Hey Gonzo1, my list for best actor is:

Johnny Depp - I agree with you there, an amazingly diverse actor
Joquin Phoenix - I think he should have got the best actor Oscar for Gladiator & Walk the Line (but I also agree that Phillip Seymour Hoffman deserved it too)
Leonardo Di Caprio - he just is
Gary Oldman - sends shivers down my spine but was horribly typecast for this
Nicholas Cage - what else can I say, that I haven't said on this forum?
Hugo Weaving - what he did in V for Vendetta while wearing a mask is amazing!!!
Judi Dench - please forgive her for the M role in Bond but she is a great actor
Helen Mirren - the old gals need to get a mention don't you think? 
Rene Zellweger - yes she is an actor too and a great one at that
Natalie Portman - please forgive her for Stars Wars but I base this opinion on "The Professional", "Closer" and "V for Vendetta

ahhh i love nick cage as much as the next person on this board-- but I feel it's time for a reality check-- Just because nicolas cage is my FAVORITE ACTOR, does'nt mean he's the BEST ACTOR....lol , I mean he's great when he's in his element- playing into his strenghts like his quirkiness- narration- etc.. but it's hard for them to find a movie that really brings out his acting abilities.. Now in adaptation-matchstick men- leaving vegas- etc he was brilliant i even loved him so much in the weatherman-- but out of 55 movies he's only had less than a dozen great movies by most nick cage fans opinions.. I love him because he's a great actor- and he's SO FREAKIN COOL- i mean i could just listen to him read the phonebook-BUT- for me he's nowhere near the actor of JOHNNY DEPPS league- in fact as far as quality goes i probably wouldnt even put him in the top 10 WOULD YOU??? and try to be honest it doesnt mean you don't really like him but it's time for a reality check-lol... here is a list of actors that lack all of nicks charisma which he has in spades but are far superior in talent..
